03 Jun 09 5 thing to look for while making an Indian Job Resume

After going through numerous interview myself I felt to write down an article on my experience and to share it with others hence here I am writing my views on what to do and what not to do while making an Indian IT Job Resume. Please Note that there Indian here do carry lot's of weightage as I feels that Indian HR managers who come for recruitment are of total different leagure with there own ways of short selecting candidates. Logic and reasoning takes place at the backseat for them and I have seen people being rejected for wearing brown belt on black shoes. Anyway this article is about Writing a resume, so here are my 5 tips -

1. I feels that there are only 3 things which most important, Your GPA(percentage), Your skillset and the kind of projects you have done. Sometimes weird things like whether you have passport can also work wonders but that's a different case. HR people don't have enough time to go each and every line of your resume so they just look at these 3 points.

2. I have also noticed that No one looks whether you were the school captain of your football team or were good in chess. These are of so 70's. You are looking for a computer job so writing that you are good in first person shoot game can help you more than writing about football or chess. Of course this depends on person to person.

3. If you have attended some technology workshops or won some programming contests, DO mention them in your resume.

4. If you are really desperate to write on your extra curricular activities, stress on your communication and organization skills rather than writing "you came second in drawing competition in your school". Do mention some talks or if you were by any means related to college magazine or any such activity. They carry more weightage.

5. C++ and Java can do wonders for you - Yes, slight mention of C++ and Java will give you lot's of advantage over others. If you are familiar with J2EE and .Net than also mention that.

There can be many more points but I am only able to think about only these important once. For more articles you can check my site Interview Questions on Coders2020
